My Metaphysical Maven – A Specialty Houseplant Box

Monstera deliciosa is an impressive houseplant that brings drama to a room! This native plant of Mexico and other tropical parts of the Americas features massive, heart-shaped leaves. A young plant will give off solid foliage, but over time will produce leaves of increasing size with large fenestrations (the leaf splits).

Allow to climb on a trellis or pole. Prefers bright, indirect light. Make sure to not let the soil dry out completely! Protect from cold temperatures!

Aphelandra squarrosa 'Dania' is a gorgeous, striking evergreen houseplant with deep green leaves and prominent, creamy white veins. In its native, tropical habitat of Brazil, this plant reaches up to 6 feet tall and sends out amazing yellow flower bracts with yellow flowers. As an indoor houseplant, they mature to be much smaller, and rarely flower, however may do so if given lots of bright, indirect light, high humidity, and a warm environment.

Aphelandra prefers a peat-based, well-drained soil.  The soil should be kept moist, but allow the top layer to dry out between waterings. It is important to protect the foliage from direct, summer sun rays, as they will burn the leaves. Bright, indirect light is ideal. This plant needs high humidity to thrive, as well as warm household temperatures that do not dip below 60° F for prolonged periods of time.

Ficus 'Tineke' display gorgeous variegation of ivory and shades of green on large rubber tree leaves. Can develop into a tall upright tree with age.

Rubber trees are an easy care house plant or Summer patio plant. Plant in a roomy pot using a well-drained, humus-rich soil. Water moderately, drying slightly in between applications. Protect from frost!

Ficus plants do not like their environment to change, which may cause leaf drop. Provide a well-draining soil and water infrequently, more so during active growth. They love a bright, sunny room with indirect light. Direct sun will burn the leaves. It's best to rotate your plant periodically to encourage equal growth on all sides. Ideally, your Ficus should be kept at indoor temperatures between 65° and 75°F. Avoid nighttime temperatures below 50°F.

Philodendron 'Choco Empress' features large and wide, deeply lobed leaves that emerge a bronzy, chocolate color and mature to green. Forms a mostly upright, vase-shaped clump. Commonly grown indoors as a houseplant. This variety gets quite large.

Best grown in fertile, organic, acidic soil that is moist but never waterlogged. Allow the soil to mostly dry out between waterings. Fertilize monthly, more frequently in containers, and water regularly. Philodendrons prefer medium indoor light and do not take well to direct sunlight. Protect from freezing temperatures!

Hoya pubicalyx  is a trailing houseplant featuring thick, glossy green, oval leaves with pointed tips and a black margin, hence the name. It produces waxy, ball clusters of whitish yellow flowers with reddish purple centers.

Hoyas are an easy care plant for hanging baskets indoor or out. It is also great trained up a trellis or support pole. This evergreen tropical vine actively grows in the warm temperatures of late Spring to Fall. Hoya pubicalyx prefers a warm, humid environment with bright indirect light. Fertilize, mist and water regularly, reducing water in winter. Allow the soil to dry out between watering. Keep your Hoya above 55°F, or its growth might be stunted.
