Arctostaphylos uva-ursi has shiny, green, evergreen foliage which becomes reddish-green in winter. Displays small, pinkish-white flowers. Red berries persist into winter. Deer resistant. Native plant of the Pacific Northwest.

Bearberry can be a suitable groundcover for dry, sandy soils. Best growth occurs in acid soils. Excellent for edging and rock gardens.
