‘Edelweiss…Edelweiss…every morning you greet me…’ Leontopodium alpinum is the national flower of Switzerland, and the star subject of the popular song from The Sound of Music. It displays 2-3″ wide, silver-white, woolly flower heads. Silver-gray leaves are also woolly. Edelweiss is a much loved native to the Alps, Pyrenees, and Carpathians. Herbaceous perennial.
Plant in very well-drained, gritty soil. Good in rock gardens, troughs, and gravel gardens.
